Broughton Mills, Cumbria, England
Lickle Valley Cottages are situated near Broughton Mills in the Lickle Valley, adjacent to Wordsworth’s favourite Duddon Valley in the unspoilt south west Lake District, 4 miles from the coast. The valley lies at the end of the long ridge of fells leading down from Coniston Old Man towards the Irish Sea. These fells, White Maiden, Caw, Stickle Pike and others, are not so well known as the Old Man and Wetherlam, and yet provide good walking with some beautiful and quiet views.
The Lickle Valley is a quiet and charming spot, yet an ideal centre for all types of outdoor pursuits - fell walking, rock climbing, pony trekking, sailing and canoeing are all available within a short distance. If you just want to potter, there are many easy rambles and beautiful car drives in the immediate vicinity.
Broughton Mills is a peaceful hamlet 2 miles from Broughton-in-Furness, a tiny market town with an Elizabethan market charter, and 6 miles from the southern end of Coniston Water. Just down the road from the cottage is the ancient Blacksmith’s Arms, ready to serve you with the best of local ales and excellent meals. There are also a plenty of good meals and bar snacks to be had in a good choice of pubs and restaurants in Broughton and the surrounding area.
